About

ONAK canoes

ONAK is somewhat like an origami: it can be folded and unfolded continuously. ONAK is a foldable and portable canoe that measures 4.6 metres and weighs 17 kilograms. It reconciles urban dwellers with nature, allowing them to take it wherever they want for a ride along canals or white-water canoeing down river rapids. Conceived by a designer and an engineer, using an innovative and highly resilient material, ONAK won the biggest local prize for best business plan Bizidee 2016. It was then exhibited all summer at the Design museum of Ghent. It is currently being produced and the first model will be available as of March 2017. That being said, you will of course be able to pre-order it at the Market!

ONAK project was funded thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign: the project raised more than 235.000€ on Kickstarter !

The company

ONAK Bvba

ONAK was imagined following its founders' desire to reconcile urban adventures with exploring the wild outdoors. Otto Van de Steene and Thomas Weyn are two passionate Belgians who assembled a diverse team in order to develop this foldable canoe on wheels. They then launched a successful crowdfunding campaign. A smart move, and one that marked the official launch of the production phase. ONAK also got the Outdoor Industy Award for best start-up of the year.
