Beyond Code : UK Visions at the Intersection of Art & Technology

How can art and technology meaningfully collaborate to shape our shared future?

This panel gathers key UK organisations that operate at the intersection of art, innovation, and public engagement. Moderated by Hannah Andrews, Director of Digital Innovation (Arts) at the British Council, the discussion will explore how institutions, festivals, and curators approach technology as both medium and ecosystem for creativity.

The session opens with insights from the British Council’s recent report Why Technology Needs Artists, co-authored by Aurora Hawcroft, before diving into the work of our guest speakers: Claire Moran (Cryptic, Glasgow), Ruth Waters (Serpentine Arts Technologies), and Carrie Chan (Victoria & Albert Museum, London).

From immersive screens to experimental sound, from museum activations to international cultural exchange, this panel highlights the diversity of UK initiatives that connect artistic imagination with technological innovation and the crucial role of artists in building a more creative and human digital future.
