Julien Poidevin

Biography

Julien Poidevin has been an intermedia artist for several years. His artistic research revolves around devices that explore and question our relationship with the body and the territory, using different modes of expression. This has led to a series of projects involving
sound landscapes, ranging from geolocated sound walks to immersive audiovisual devices, performances and installations. Fascinated by the question of how our senses perceive space, he seeks to create situations of dialogue between the work and the context in which it takes shape. Through artistic, sound and light interventions and compositions in a given location, he aims to transform the usual perception of that place.
These proposals bring together a desire to experiment with sensitive and reflective situations, via a dialogue between a place, a given space and its visitor, in the here and now of the encounter with the work.

L’écho des pierres

L’écho des pierres is an immersive sound installation that sheds light on the acoustics of a space, offering a unique experience.
Four rotating ultra-directional loudspeakers emit sound waves that reflect off walls, bodies and other objects in the space. As visitors move around, they can feel the relationship between sound and space.
Thanks to directional loudspeaker technology, the sound signal is modulated to become an ultra-sound, giving it a high degree of directivity. When it encounters a body or the architecture, it becomes audible again to our ears, and through this technique and the rotational movements, we can distinctly hear the filtration of sound by the architecture, according to the dimensions of the space, its shapes, materials and surfaces.
The composition is structured by a sound and movement script for four modules: loudspeakers and motors.
