Superbe

Biography

Superbe crafts living artworks where objects, sounds, and rhythms converge – ephemeral moments of wonder, connection, and poetry. Unexpected and accessible, they strike the right chord – right where it feels good.

Since 2011, Superbe has explored creation as a space for questioning and inventing new modes of interaction. At its core are Gaël Bertrand and Gaëtan Libertiaux, two Namur-based artists whose practice is deeply rooted in music. In their installations, the public is never just a spectator – but an integral part of the experience, always invited into the creative process.

Gravity

Gravity is a luminous, musical, and interactive fresco. The audience is invited to turn the crank of a special barrel organ. This unique instrument allows the user to control both the music and the direction and speed of the choreography performed by a dancer whose image is projected onto the wall.
The score, composed by Stéphane Orlando and performed by Laurent Houque (Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles), is a palindrome, a form of composition that can be played both forwards and backwards.
The choreography and its execution are provided by Julien Carlier (Compagnie Abis).

Gravity explores the relationship between time and the movement of dance. The installation expresses the passage of time through the dancer’s contact with the ground. The trace left behind, which appears to flow, is a visual expression of this moment of contact between the body and the surface that supports it. This trace is always unique, as the speed of execution is controlled by the audience.
It resembles the punched cards used in barrel organs, which inspired us to design the interaction (and thus the control of both choreography and music) in this form.
