talk topic

Fossilized Futures - Bridging Deep Time and Speculative Futures

A talk will present more in-depth a new collaborative work Fossilized Futures; between Marco Barotti and Robertina Šebjanič , weaving connections between ancient ecosystems, contemporary landscapes, and speculative horizons.

This project explores the tension between deep time, and the present future, creating bridges between ancient ecosystems, contemporary landscapes, and speculative futures. It centres on the 365-million-year-old fossil Strudiella devonica (found in the region of Namur) and the twin river systems of La Meuse and La Sambre. It presents how insects like Strudiella devonica bridge aquatic and terrestrial realms.
The project investigates the flow of time, and interspecies coexistence by blending disciplines such as archaeology, futurology, quantum biology, ecology, natural & cultural heritage and mythology.
